Safety data sheets, linked to the recipe
In most companies the formula lives in the R&D system and the safety data sheet lives somewhere else: a standalone authoring tool, an EHS spreadsheet, or a consultant's queue. Every new sample, reformulation or raw material swap means exporting the composition and keying it in again, so the SDS falls behind the product it describes.
Uncountable keeps the SDS next to the recipe and ingredient data your formulators already maintain. An SDS record can hold all 16 GHS sections as structured fields, link to the experiment it describes, and load its composition table from that recipe, with each ingredient name, CAS number and weight percentage. Ingredient records can fill hazard fields from public chemical data by CAS number, GHS pictograms show next to each ingredient while the recipe is built, and each SDS moves through a review workflow with a field-level audit trail before it exports as one PDF.
This solution brief is for R&D leaders, product safety and EHS teams, and formulation scientists who want the SDS to stay in step with the formula.
Inside this solution brief:
- Why the SDS is usually the last to know about a formula change
- Hazard data on each ingredient, from public data by CAS number or a supplier SDS
- GHS pictograms in the recipe editor and recipe header
- A 16-section SDS record, with the composition loaded from the recipe
- Review workflows, audit trail and PDF export
- Where the safety data comes from, and current jurisdiction coverage
Write the safety data sheet from the recipe, not from a copy of it.
FAQs
How Uncountable keeps the safety data sheet linked to the recipe: hazard data on each ingredient, GHS pictograms in the recipe, a 16-section SDS record whose composition loads from the recipe, a review workflow with an audit trail, and PDF export.
Yes. An SDS record can hold all 16 GHS sections as structured fields and links to the experiment it describes. The Update Table action fills the composition section from the linked recipe with each ingredient name, CAS number and weight percentage, and Download SDS exports the record as one PDF.
Three paths. The composition table loads from the recipe. From an ingredient's CAS number, Uncountable can fill fields from public chemical data, such as flash point, density, GHS pictograms, H-statements and regulatory flags like TSCA and Prop 65. A supplier SDS PDF uploaded to the ingredient adds the GHS pictograms it shows.
Run Update Table again to clear the composition and reload it from current data. Each SDS record moves through a workflow, for example Start, Review and Done, and the audit trail logs each field edit with the user and the old and new values.
R&D leaders who want samples and launches to stop waiting on a separate SDS process, product safety and EHS teams who review SDS data, and formulation scientists who need to see hazards while the recipe is being built.
