Trace a Failed Part Lot to Its Raw Material and Open a CAPA

Find the powder lot behind a failed part lot, then act on it in the CAPA.

The problem: failures traced across disconnected systems

When a part lot fails, the cause is often in a raw material. Tracing it and opening a CAPA across separate systems takes time.

Five properties out of spec on one part lot point to something upstream. Finding which powder lot went into it, and which other part lots used the same powder, means following records across production and quality systems.

What this demo shows

  1. Part lot P-2609-10 of a 0603 X7R 100 nF ceramic chip capacitor fails its release spec.
  2. Sintered density, capacitance, dielectric constant, dissipation factor and insulation resistance are all out of spec.
  3. Find the powder lot behind the failed part lot.
  4. Act on it in the CAPA.

‍

Why it matters

Stop reconstructing the evidence every time something goes wrong. When part lots record the material lots behind them, tracing a failure to its source is a lookup, not a project.

Opening the CAPA on the same data model links the powder lot to every affected part lot, so containment and the corrective action cover the full scope from the start.

Uncountable keeps specs, lots, test results, and CAPAs in one data model. This part lot is out of spec. Dielectric constant is too low. Each part lot records the powder lot it was made from and that powder's D50. One plot puts powder D50 next to dielectric constant for every part lot. The part lots made from the coarse powder are the low ones.

And the CAPA sits on the same data. It links the powder lot to the affected part lots and records the fix. Quarantine the powder, set a D50 maximum. One connected system for R&D, manufacturing, and quality.

FAQs

How do I trace a failed part lot to its raw material?

Each part lot records the powder lot it was made from and its properties. One plot puts powder D50 next to dielectric constant, showing which powder lot is behind the low results.

Can the CAPA use the same data?

Yes. The CAPA sits on the same data model and links the powder lot to the affected part lots.

What fix does the demo record?

Quarantining the powder and setting a D50 maximum.
